Install GIO-1
Disclaimer: installing this firmware could brick your FM-1. GIO-1 is unofficial firmware, not made, endorsed or supported by M-VAVE, and this is an alpha. You install it entirely at your own risk.
Tested on two FM-1s. It has been installed on two separate FM-1s and works on both. On each, other firmware was then installed over it and GIO-1 put back again, so moving between GIO-1 and other firmware has been tried too. It has not yet been tried more widely.
The safety nets: a crash restarts it; two failed starts in a row bring up SAFE MODE (no sound, USB on: install again, or go back to stock below); past that, the chip's own update mode, from which the rescue tool puts M-VAVE's firmware back. Update mode by hand: hold REC while switching the FM-1 on, until the screen says UPDATE MODE.
Connect the FM-1 by USB, then press Install. It works in Chrome or Edge; the browser asks once to allow MIDI: allow it.
Do not unplug the USB cable while writing.
